What's going with that? Initially we had planned to have services take place at locations in both Ferdinand and French Lick. While the remote-site in Ferdinand is still planned, there will not be a service in the French Lick area. (This is because of a community day of service by the churches on May 16th in French Lick that CCJ is opting to take part in, as opposed to having our own "day of service" on the 17th). In Ferdinand, the service will be taking place at the Forest Park High School auditorium. Isn't this kind of "non-religous"? Should we really be doing this during church time? 51 other weeks of this year will be dedicated to spending our normally allotted time to worship, prayer, communion and the study of God's Word. For this one week we want to do something different to make a point about what God's church is really about. That we do not just exist to build buildings, sing songs and develop programs, but instead we want to make an impact by serving the communities that we live in. Will the services be at regular times? There will be two services at CCJ happening at 9:00 AM and 10:45 AM as they do every week. The service in Ferdinand will be at the Forest Park High School auditorium and will begin at 10:00 AM. What will be going on with my kids? One of the best examples you can offer as a parent is for your kids to see you serving others, or teaching them the selfless act of service. We're encouraging families to serve together at worksites. On the sign-up sheets different worksites have been labeled as "kid friendly" to make selection easy for parents. With that in mind we also understand that kids under the age of three will be unable to participate in most activities. Therefore, one of the areas of service that you can become involved with, is helping to watch children ages three and under while parents are out serving on May 17th. This service, while somewhat different, is no less essential than any other position in helping to make this day of service a success! How do I know what I'll be doing on May 17th? In the CCJ lobby you'll find a variety of sign-up sheets for projects. On each project you'll find an overview of what sort of service will be involved at that particular site. What if I missed sign-ups at CCJ this past Sunday? Sign up for projects will still be taking place this Sunday at CCJ. However this Sunday will be THE LAST day that you'll be available to sign up for projects. Do I really have to sign up ahead of time for a worksite? YES. I cannot begin to explain how important it is to know accurate numbers ahead of time for these worksites. Our Outreach Team is diligently working with local organizations and it is NECESSARY to have an accurate idea regarding how many individuals will be serving at each site. What if I don't know how to get to my worksite? On May 17th we will have maps available that you can pick up before or after services in order to help you reach your destination. What if there is inclement weather that day? Obviously the weather is a concern any time outdoor projects are planned. We are diligently praying for fair weather on that day (and ask you to join us as we pray), but realize that the weather still may be an issue. With that in mind we are recommending that in the event of inclement weather, everyone check the website, or listen to WITZ for information. Should we need to cancel service activities on this day, we will plan to have our regular services at the CCJ campus. On the sign-up sheet there's a spot for a T-shirt. Do I need to buy one? It is not necessary for you to purchase a CCJ T-shirt. Would we like for everyone to have one? You bet! But it's not absolutely necessary. If finances are an issue, please simply contact the office at 812.481.2410 and we'll make sure you receive a T-shirt free of charge. What if I'd like to special-order a child-size shirt? Since there have typically been few child-sizes ordered, we will not be taking orders specifically for them. However if you would like to order a child-size shirt, please simply contact Bethany at Jasper Embroidery by close of business on Thursday, May 14, 2009. They will print your order along with the rest of the CCJ shirts being printed at that time. What if there are visitors on May 17th? Specific individuals have been recruited to assist with guest relations for May 17th. That way should a guest spontaneously show up and not be aware of what's going on, someone is here on-site to help them out. If someone is scheduled to be with you at CCJ on that morning, invite them along to serve beside you at your worksite. If guests do show up spontaneously and want to get involved, we are going to give our best effort to help plug them into an available area of service on that morning. Note: This should in no way be taken as an excuse to not sign up ahead of time :-). |
