Frequently Asked Questions

1.) What kind of church is this?

The Christian Church of Jasper is a congregation that believes Jesus Christ is God’s Son, and accepts Him as Lord and Savior. We are not perfect. We are forgiven sinners growing in grace toward spiritual maturity.

2.) What denomination is CCJ?

We are not a part of any denomination. Instead we are an independent church governed by God’s Word and local people from within the congregation. We offer allegiance to no organization, denomination or person other than Jesus Christ. He is our creed and the Bible is our guide. We are led within this fellowship by people of faith under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

3.) What should we call the ministers?
In some churches the ministers want to be called by a certain title. This is not the case here. You can call them by their first names.

4.) What should I wear to church?
Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. The only thing we do ask is that you be modest and not seek to draw attention to yourself. We simply want all attention to go to Jesus.

5.) Am I expected to give money in the service?
Visitors to the church are not expected to give anything. We want you to be blessed and to enjoy the service. Those who are committed to CCJ as their home church should give joyfully and sacrificially.

6.) Is there a reason why you take communion every Sunday?
One of the things Jesus wanted Christians to do was to remember the price He paid for our sins. One way we remember Jesus is to participate in a "memory dinner" each week. Jesus instituted this and wanted Christians to participate so we have decided to practice this every week.

7.) Why do you baptize people by full immersion rather than sprinkling or pouring water on them?
As a church we want to follow Jesus and His word to the best of our ability. Jesus was completely immersed at His baptism. Also the word baptize, in its original language, means to immerse completely under. For a detailed look at CCJ's views on baptism, download this PDF.

8.) How do I become a member of CCJ?
Simply let us know that you are a baptized follower of Jesus Christ (or wish to become one) and that you want to be an active part of this church body. This step can be done by talking to a minister or by coming forward during the weekly worship service. A minister or elder will take time to talk with you then.

9.) Can I go to heaven if I do not become a follower of Jesus?
God's plan for your life begins with Jesus. Outside of a personal relationship with Jesus, the Bible gives no other plan of how to get to heaven.
(See Acts 4:12)

10.) How do I become a Christian?
The word Christian simply means "little Christ." The simplest answer to this question is that you need to become a follower of Jesus.

11.) So how do I become a follower of Jesus?
Believe.
Believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God who died for your sins and offers salvation as a free gift for all who put their trust in Him. To believe means to recognize that you have not lived up to the standard God desired for you. The Bible word for this is sin. Everyone, who has lived except Jesus has sinned.  (See Romans 3:23, John 3:16 and Ephesians 2:8-9)

Repent of your sins.
To repent means to change your mind. Decide today that you no longer want to live life doing your own thing, but that you want to follow God's path instead. (See Acts 3:19)

Confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. (See Romans 10:9)

Be baptized into Christ.
To be baptized means to be immersed with water. It is a symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, reminding us that when we are saved we die to our selves and are raised to live a new life in Christ. (See Acts 2:38, Romans 6:3-4 and Colossians 2:11-14)

12.) What should I do next?
Once you place your trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and cross over the canyon that was seperating you and God to be reconciled with God, you have been born again into God’s family. As a newborn baby there are some things you can do to grow to spiritual maturity. Obedience is very convincing evidence of your sincerity in wanting a joyous walk and relationship with God.
Start reading the Bible every day. This is a sure way to grow closer to God and one of the best ways He communicates with us. If you don't have a Bible, contact us and we will make sure you get one or take one home after the service. Bibles are found throughout the room at CCJ. Take one if you need it. They are free.
Pray daily, several times a day if possible. We have access to our Heavenly Father through His Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Talk to Him as you would your best friend. That is what He wants to be. If you talk to Him on a regular basis you will get to know Him well.
Join with others who love Christ and are believers in Him in a local church where you can worship, grow in faith, and serve God by using your unique gifts.

History

The Christian Church of Jasper held its first service on May 21, 2000, at the Days Inn of Jasper with 14 local members and 20 visitors from supporting churches attending. After growing in number, the services were moved to the Jasper 8 Theatres.

In August 2001, the church purchased the former Canteen building on Cathy Lane in Jasper. After six years of substantial growth in the warehouse, CCJ built a new facility on the south side of Jasper to allow for room to grow even further. CCJ held its first service in its present location on February 4, 2007. In late 2008, the church began an expansion project on the current facility to accomodate for growth experienced in the first two years as well as future growth.

The Christian Church is an independent, non-denominational group of Christians seeking to restore the church to the original purpose and mission of the New Testament church written of in the book of Acts.
Purpose

"The Christian Church of Jasper exists to lift up Christ by winning the lost to Him, encouraging the saved, training everyone for Christ's service and ministering to those in need."

We believe the best way to accomplish this is by loving God, loving people and changing the world.

As each person comes through the doors, we are committed to helping each person feel loved, treasured and a part of God's family.

We hope they will find a church home at CCJ and begin to connect to the family of believers through services each weekend, small groups and through serving others in community outreach programs.
